The Mic: It Sounds Nice™ is an independent record label founded in February 2004. It is a company built on providing the community with quality music and a full service of media needs including music production, graphic design, and soon cd duplication.

For artists, The Mic is a place they can come to release material, get the attention of major labels, receive local promotion, and network. It is considered a springboard for artists to develop and take their career to the next level.

The Mic: It Sounds Nice™ began manufacturing a T-shirt apparel line in March 2004. They followed up in October 2004 with the release of DJ Surv Presents The Mic: The Mixtape Volume 1. This compact disc contained 23 exclusive tracks from Okayplayer Records recording artists Dice Raw, Truck North, and Makk Dubb; AAries (Mama Boys); Hezekiah (Soulspazm); Spooks (Koch Records); Mr. K and Light (Monster Truck Audio); Chief Kamachi (Good Hands); and many more.

In August 2005, The Mic released it's second project STREET TEAM hosted by REEF THE LOST CAUZE featuring producer DOC MARTIN.

Here's a review from Illmuzik.com

"FOR ALL YOU SLOW MOTHERFUCKERS

IMA BREAK IT DOWN ILLER"

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COMPILATION AND AN ALBUM is that an album is supposed to be a cohesive piece of work. There may be some outside influence and input, but for the most part it's a book with one author. A compilation is normally a collection of ideas from different sources formulated to create a single work; like a magazine and its contributors who may not share the same opinions, but they share the same interest. Nowadays your typical album has 10+ producers and more features than two movie theaters directly across the street

from each other. As a result, the term "something for everyone" has been used a little loosely in Hip-Hop. A universal cop out for a confused artist, an all over the place album or both.

Philly native DJ Surv has put together some of the cities finest talent on "DJ Surv Presents The Mic: The Mixtape Vol. 1". The result is an ill representation of up and coming Philadelphia talent and a well crafted compilation which has generated a strong following in the Philadelphia area.
