Who is Michael McDonald? Where should we begin?
A genius was born on February 12, 1952, in Saint Louis, Missouri. That makes him an Aquarius, the sign of intellect, humanity, weirdness, and rebellion!
He's played with Steely Dan... he was in The Doob, for chrissakes... performed with Patti LaBelle, Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, James Ingram... and he continues his brilliant, awe-insipiring solo project. What an amazing man, indeed.
Also known as the "blue-eyed soul man", he has a distinct voice that is warbly and haunting. His voice is maddening because it's so fucking neat, man... it just makes you wanna DO things, ya know?
Aw yeeah.
If you've come this far, and you still don't know who he is, you're an asshole. Here are some examples of his virtuosity:
"I Keep Forgettin'" (a duet with his sister Maureen, later sampled in 1993 by Warren G)
"Sweet Freedom" (the theme to the MGM film Running Scared)
"Takin' it to the Streets"
"It Keeps You Runnin'"
"What a Fool Believes"
"Take It To Heart"
"Yah Mo B There", a duet with James Ingram which won a 1985 Grammy for Best R&B Song by a Group or Duet
"On My Own", a 1986 duet with Patti Labelle which reached ..1 on the US charts
... and let's not forget his crotch-tingling version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Good stuff!
We'll leave you with a fascinating bit of trivia: Mr. McDonald also sang "Eyes of a Child" (written by Trey Parker), the ending credits song for the 1999 animated film South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.
Invite your friends. Enjoy your visit to this shrine to a modern day dynamo, the man with the soul of a Negro and the face of a Sage......... Mr. Michael McDonald.
