This group was founded for people that enjoy their Range Rover Classic('s). Ideas, tips, comments, and topics are welcome.
RANGE ROVER CLASSIC HISTORY:
1970: Range Rover was born w/ 3.5-litre alloy V8 engine, coil spring suspension, load levelling, disc brakes & full-time 4x4
1973: Power steering was added
1981: 4-door range rover was introduced
1982: LR offered an auto-transmission option, althought specialist firms had been performing conversions for sometime.
1983: 5-speed manual gearbox was introduced.
1985: V8 engine got fuel injection.
1986: 2.4-litre VM diesel was offered as an alternative to the petrol V8 (aimed at the european expensive petrol market).
1987: LR REENTERED THE NORTH AMERICAN MARKET!
1988: The Vogue SE model was introduced.
1989: The petrol V8 was changed to a 3.9-litres (the VM diesel went to a 2.5-litres in 1990).
1992: A new transfer case was introduced, using a morse (silent) chain (instead of 3 gears) and w/ a viscous coupling on the centre differential. Air-bag suspension became an option on the top models.
1993: A 108" long wheelbase model was added which balanced the look of the 4 door models. a 4.2-litre V8 became available. LR's 200 Tdi diesel replaced the VM unit.
1994: An all new RR was released, although the old model cont. to be made as the 'Range Rover Classic' until Feb. 1996 by which time 317,615 had been built.
1995: Marked the 25th anniversary of the 'Range Rover Classic'. LR made 250 (world wide) of the classic model for the anniversary.
