David Allen was influenced by Willis O'Brien's & Ray Harryhausen's films that he saw on Television as a young boy. Dave first got his start as an assistant to Jim Danforth another Stop-Motion Great on the Sci-Fi Film When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth (1970). That film earned an Oscar for it's ground breaking Stop-Motion Animation Work. Then Allen worked along side Dennis Muren animating creatures for Equinox (1970). Then he worked at Cascade Pictures animating characters for commercials such as The Pillsbury Dough Boy, Mrs. Butterworth's, Planter's Peanuts Man, Nestle Crunch Man & Swiss Miss. In 1971 he did Stop-Motion for a Volkswagen Commercial that featured a smaller version of King Kong with brown hair. Re-creating The famous atop of The Empire State Building Scene. Also featuring Fay Wray's Daughter. Dave was put on The Animation team in 1973 to animate the Nesuahyrrah creature from Flesh Gordon (1974). The creature's name was a homage to Ray Harryhausen which used his last name spelled backwards. In the late 70’s Dave was hired to supply animation on 2 Low Budget Sci-Fi Cult Classics The Crater Lake Monster ’77 & Laserblast ’78. The Crater Lake Monster (1977) was Dave's first film where he took his time & did awesome realistic smooth animation. He wasn't rushed like working with Muren animating in Equinox. For Crater Lake, Dave was assisted by Jim Danforth & Randall William Cook 2 other top animators. In The Crater Lake Monster Dave brings to life a Prehistoric Plesiosaurus a Water Reptile from the dinosaur ages. A Meteorite crashes in Crater Lake & incubates an egg from this creature. When it gets full-grown it causes many local animal & human deaths in & out of a nearby lake. Finally it must be dealt with properly. After Crater Lake he animated aliens in Laserblast (1978) alongside Randall William Cook. Charles Band's Sci-Fi Low-Budgeter about turtle like aliens that look very similar to E.T. Which E.T. probably got it's idea from them. The aliens on a trip to earth accidentally leave a laser gun on earth. Which an unpopular teen gets a hold of. With the gun he causes havoc on those who treated him unfairly. Eventually the aliens must return for the gun asap. Allen did more animation on films then any other animator even Ray Harryhausen. All his films will be posted on this site. Also I will post more information about him.
