While many of us are online often as a diversion to our pain, making new friends and trying to find others like us who experience chronic pain, the owner of RSD Chat has done a wonderful thing in providing us with this online realm to meet, gather and discuss. This Group has been born as an informational resource, guide, and support tool in regards to Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome(RSDS), also known as, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome(CRPS). We will discuss chronic pain, secondary illnesses, mental disorders. emotions, coping strategies, medical technology, clinical trials, medications, surgical proceedures, physicians, workers' compensation, injured workers, social security disability, education and employment goals, relaxation techniques, personal essays, articles, and more! Please feel free to express your emotions with poetry, short stories, thoughts, questions, answers, and funnies, too!
Those surviving Fibromyalgia, Amputation Phantom Pain, Peripheral Neuropathy, Degenerative Disk Disease, other Degenerative Diseases, Arthritis, RLS, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Learning Disabilities associated with pain, or other Chronic Pains from mild to severe with or without RSD are welcome. This group is open to all ages. This means that minors may participate. Descretion is advised.

***Please note:The reference to mental illness and emotional trauma in the group sub-title does NOT mean that I am implying RSD(S)/CRPS is a mental illness. It means that emotionally traumatic feelings take over including depression, anger, sense of loss, remorse, fear, violence, stress and mental instability and behavioral health issues can and sometimes will arise secondary to chronic pain.

RSD(S)/CRPS Summary Description-
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSD) - also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) - is a chronic neurological syndrome characterized by:
severe burning pain
pathological changes in bone and skin
excessive sweating
tissue swelling
extreme sensitivity to touch
There are Two Types of CRPS - Type I and Type II.
CRPS Type I (also referred to as RSD) - cases in which the nerve injury cannot be immediately identified.
CRPS Type II (also referred to as Causalgia) - cases in which a distinct "major" nerve injury has occurred.
RSD/CRPS is best described in terms of an injury to a nerve or soft tissue (e.g. broken bone) that does not follow the normal healing path.
RSD/CRPS development does not appear to depend on the magnitude of the injury. The sympathetic nervous system seems to assume an abnormal function after an injury.
Since there is no single laboratory test to diagnose RSD/CRPS, the physician must assess and document both subjective complaints (medical history) and, if present, objective findings (physical examination).
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type I (RSD)
The presence of an initiating noxious event, or a cause of immobilization.
Continuing pain, allodynia, or hyperalgesia with which the pain is disproportionate to any inciting event.
Evidence at some time of edema, changes in skin blood flow (skin color changes, skin temperature changes more than 1.1°C difference from the homologous body part), or abnormal sudomotor activity in the region of the pain.
This diagnosis is excluded by the existence of conditions that would otherwise account for the degree of pain and dysfunction.
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type II (Causalgia)
The presence of continuing pain, allodynia, or hyperalgesia after a nerve injury, not necessarily limited to the distribution of the injured nerve. To date there is still no cure for RSD(S)/CRPS
We know of many chronic pain survivors who feel alone, empty, and shattered, who experience depression to varying degrees, become a social recluse, who struggle with emotions of not being believed in their pain, who are in need of friendships, perhaps companionship, and even more so conversation. You aren't alone! That's why we're here, to show you that you aren't. I know others others who haven't experienced any major depression with the RSDS/CRPS. I urge you to vent, if needed. This does not include attacking others, but it does include allowing you to let your emotions escape you here rather than at your loved ones. I ask that everyone consider the feelings of others when posting as we are all different personalities and unique in our own suffering.

On August 25, 2007 KurtisV began his Junior Manager internship here as a partner and colleague where he is eager to learn and grow. My young son Kurtis is part owner of RSDAdvisor(y) which was founded in 2004. Kurtis has ambitions of increasing standards, increasing notoriety, expanding our websites, and yours, updating the advisories, and learning the ropes of keeping a group up and running. He has a strong leading nature. He will learn to research in depth, share ideas, listen to others, and take part in our movement to promote, spread, circulate, gather and provide useful and informative links, so that sooner than later, RSD will become a known name and definition, instead of unheard of in every household across the nation. He will begin on a trial and error basis, offering light council, resources, information and responses.
