Tibby's Diner is a 50s style diner in Manhattan, New York. It's central location makes it an ideal gathering spot for anyone in the area. The crowds are diverse: some friendships have lasted throughout their lives and others are just beginning. So drop in, take a load off , enjoy the best burgers and shakes in town, and while you’re at it make some new friends or catch up with old ones. You never know who you’ll run into.

01. Feel free to do and say whatever you want in character as your character would say/do it.

02. Creativity is important, however you should stay in character. Role playing is a great way to develop as a writer. Choose a personality for your character and keep it. Have them develop over time.

03. If you are inactive for two weeks without notice or a damn good reason, your character(s) will be removed. THIS WILL BE ENFORCED. 1ST TIME IS A WARNING. 2ND TIME IS PROBATION. 3RD TIME INACTIVE CHARACTER(S) WILL BE REMOVED OR CANON CHARACTER(S) WILL BE OPENED FOR SOMEONE ELSE. You will not be allowed back if you are kicked out of the group. Three strikes and you're out. Period.

04. Canon characters are required and OC characters are allowed and encouraged. However, if you want to try a relationship with a certain newsie, make sure you are not playing that newsie. You also need to talk to the person playing that character and make arrangements.

05. Slash has already been established within the RP. If you personally have a problem with it, please keep it to yourself or don't apply. However, if your character has a problem with it, that is fine and the character is allowed to express it.

06. Drama in the RPG amongst characters is welcome, however drama amongst players is not. If you have an issue, bring it to us mods by PM or Email when it starts and don't let it fester and become something you or someone else would leave the RPG over. That's just stupid.

07. A MySpace site that is used in another RPG will not be accepted. If you still want to join with that character, you must make a new MySpace site for him/her. I know it's a hassle but it will make everything easier for everyone.

08. You're free to RP the characters in AIM OR ANY OTHER MESSENGER, if you want, but please, make sure everyone keeps up with what's going on BY AN OOC BLOG OR BULLETIN. Please note that EVERYTHING doesn't have to be posted! If something important happens that can involve more than just the characters that were present, please let everyone know!

09. If you want to take the time to make a site before you're approved, you may do so, but don't try to add anyone before you're approved. If this happens, your character will not be approved whether or not he/she would have been. Current players let us know if this happens. You also may not join the group until you're character is approved.

10. Treat it like a real MySpace for your character. Post those bulletin surveys, pass bulletin chain letters, post blogs about anything , etc. But make sure you label any posts OOC if you're going out of character! (If you've read the rules, put "Samurai Love Attack!" in the subject line of your form. We will check for this to make sure you've read the rules!)

11. All posts should be done in first person! Act like you are the character! OOC posts should be done as you (i.e. Jake would bulletin with: Hey everyone! My name is Jake and I work on Broadway! but Hair would say: Jake went with Jack to a bar and got totally plastered.).

12. If you're going to play siblings (OC or canon), please keep in contact with whoever is playing your siblings, if it isn't you. For example, if Hair wants to play Morris, but Sage is playing Oscar, Hair would keep in very good contact with Sage because she is playing Oscar, to make sure that their story lines add up, and, first of all, if it's okay for Hair to play Morris.

13. Make sure you friend all characters and keep an eye on this group! Mod Posts will come from our Mod account as bulletins, so be sure that is the first account your character(s) friend when you are approved. We'll try and put up a bulletin each time someone new joins, so you know to add them.

14. Okay, knowing there will be a diverse set of characters, I think this needs to be established: pregnancies are allowed, but must last for at least a month, but no longer than four months after it has been announced. This applies to everyone, including family members who are not being specifically played (i.e. if Itey's mom gets pregnant, the same rules apply to her). This does not mean a pregnancy term will only be up to 4 months long! Once you announce the pregnancy, it may not last more than 4 months (i.e. when Itey's mom found out she was pregnant, she was really 5 months along or when Itey's mom found out she was pregnant, she was 3 months long but she gave birth prematurely).

15. If you want to kill off an OC, feel free, but it must be your own OC. However, if you want to kill off a canon character, it must be cleared by the Mods first.

16. More than one marriage may happen at a time! The same with pregnancies and any other common event. That's why they're called common events.

17. Not all characters can be a waiter at Tibby's Diner! That will be ran through the Mods! If you would like to be a waiter or anyone that would work at Tibby's (i.e. cook, cashier, bus boy/girl, etc.), let us know and we will consider you! If you don't get it, I'm sure either Sage or Hair will be able to help you figure out another job for your character!

IF YOU PLAN TO HAVE AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER:

- If you would like to be someone's family member (sibling, cousin, mother, father, etc), please check to see if that character has the specific relative you want to play. (There is a entry in the forum below with all the profiles, but you may need to contact the player.) And please ask if it's okay to play the part with the player of the character you would like to be related to.

- Not every OC will make it in, but all are welcome to apply.

- We'd really like to see some diverse OCs. All races, religions, sexual preferences, etc. Please consider race, religion, economic status, education, sexual preference, family background, etc and how they affect your character and how they would react to every day situations. If your character uses ethnic slurs or bad language, that is fine, however don't be shocked if the other characters have a bad reaction to it.

- Family relationships between canon characters and OCs are welcome, however, if that canon character is being played by someone, you must discuss and come to an agreement with that person. If no one is playing that canon character, you are free to establish a relationship with them, but are required to either apply yourself or encourage someone to apply for that canon character.

- If a character has already established him/herself as an only child, do not bug/abuse/force the player into letting you play a sibling. If one of us hears about it, you will be perma-banned. Current players let us know if this happens.

- Not all OCs should be from Ireland or Italy! Try Gatesville, Texas or Taiwan. There are about 193 countries in the world, plus 50 states in the United States. That alone gives you a diverse selection of types of characters! We understand that the canon characters are mostly Irish or Italian but that doesn't mean the OCs have to be too.

- The OCs can not be all immigrants. The USA has strict laws about immigration now.


NPCs - Non-Player Characters - may be played by anyone as long as you follow the personality of the character. IE- Bryan is Nicky's older brother, going through a bad divorce and has established a thing with Sam. If you want to include his antics with his girls or something, that's fine. However, having him have a homosexual tryst with Snoddy would not be in character for him.
- If you have a character that is NOT Canon (i.e. Davey's little brother Les is canon and may not apply here) that you want to include in RPG activities, please fill out a profile for them. Be as detailed as possible with things they absolutely wouldn't do because other players may be playing this character.
- Keep in mind that NPCs are no longer only your character once they are added to the NPC pool.
- Specify if you mind your NPC being picked up as a regular character by another player. If they are picked up as a CORE character you will not have any control over what they do from the time they are adopted.
- Anything Uber major (i.e. death of the NPC) must be approved by the Mods.


You are encouraged (but not required) to plan activities that multiple characters can participate in. (i.e. weddings, birthday parties, sporting events, etc.) This should happen in character in a blog and/or bulletin, so have them announce anything they are into. (i.e. Blink has a band and plays baseball at NYU that he may wish to invite his friends to come see.)

- Keep in mind that you may or may not get all the characters involved! Each character has separate interests and responsibilities other than their group of friends at Tibby's!

- To get the best turn out and ideas that are great for individual RPs, give as many details as you can.
-- Obviously include the basics: Who? What? When? Where? Why?
-- Specify if it's JUST for the girls, JUST high school, etc. Otherwise, plan on a variety of characters participating.
-- If it is a big event, like a wedding or something that has been discussed and has many characters involved, give AS MUCH DETAIL AS POSSIBLE! Not only the basics but also like how formal the attire should be, any special guests, or other information you would tell your friends if you were going to invite them to the same kind of event.

- Also when making plans for the group, keep in mind the "normal" schedule of the characters. This doesn't mean you have to know minute to minute what each person is doing, just that it isn't scheduled at the same time as another activity or something like work or school, if you want as many characters there that you can get. You can't have it perfect for everyone, but since many of the characters have jobs AND school it's not highly likely that they'll be available for something in the middle of the day unless it's planned in advance.


***You can play up to 3 characters to start off with, but must play one canon characters before you can play an OC and at least one has to be a core character. More characters will open for you when you have established yourself as a reliable player.
- Canon character requirement may change depending on number of players in the game.
- Feel free to ask the Mods if you think you're reliable enough to gain another character. If we say yes, have at filling another application! If we say, no, we'll tell you why you can't and if you fix it, then you may ask again. We don't want dead characters!***


If you feel one of your characters has no inspiration left, please contact the Mods, if you would like to drop them. Do not let them sit there forever and end up getting deleted automatically from the group and getting yourself getting put on probation because you're not following rule number 3.

NEW Blog at least once every other week with your canon characters. The blog must be at least 2 - 3 paragraphs long. This is only to help keep this a Newsies RPG and not have the OCs take it over and all the canons die. This isn't to punish people, this is just to help everyone's canons stay active. Blog about your character's kid, or their job, or the crack in the tiles on the floor. Just blog something! And it can not be quizzes or surveys! They do not count as a blog in this instance! /NEW

NEW Blog at least once every month with your original characters (OCs). The blog length should be at least 2 - 3 paragraphs just like your canon blogs. This is to help keep OCs alive and kicking and not have them die or get uninspired. Quizzes and surveys do not count as a blog in this instance either! /NEW


If we receive more than one application for a canon character, we will take into consideration the number of characters each applicant has, as well as playing style and character profile before deciding on who will play that canon character. They will not be first come, first serve, but will be decided on who we feel is best for the role.


This is a 2007 based RPG, even though the central gathering spot is a 50s style diner.


***Godmodding is NOT allowed. You may not post how another player's character will act/react to a situation without that player's permission. However, if your character is a bully, they can strike out towards another character, but the other character's player has every option of how hurt or how he/she will react to your character's actions. If you have any questions about Godmodding, please contact us before accusing another player of it.***


Cliques: hate them! But, we realize that because of time constraints and other things they will likely develop - you tend to brainstorm with those you have easiest access to. However, we want to keep them to a minimum and not let anyone feel that they are being ignored. These are pretty basic things, but for some reason they nearly always manage to be overlooked and it causes RPGs to break up. We want this to last as long as possible.

Ways to avoid ignoring anyone:

- If a character comments to your character...REPLY

- Try to comment to a variety of people, even if you’ve never RP’d with them or your character doesn’t know them yet. Who knows, it could end up sparking a good story line.


No character may be abducted by aliens! Don't even think about it.


AGE GROUP

- The older canon characters (i.e. Jack Kelly, Morris Delancey, David Jacobs) should be between the age of 21 and 25.

- The younger canon characters (i.e. Tumbler, Slider, Les Jacobs) should be between the ages of 14 and 17.

- Adult canon characters (i.e. Tibby, Medda, Pulitzer, Bryan Denton) should be between the age of 40 and 50, possibly older considering Kloppman.

- OCs can be any age from 17 and up, but the 17 year olds must be graduating seniors, howeverif you have an OC that wants to be with a specific younger canon character, you may request it and be younger with the Mods approval and begin working with the younger canon character (i.e. if you want to have an OC that is Slider's girlfriend you must contact the person playing Slider PRIOR to sending in the request for the OC to be the age to be with Slider. If that relationship is not approved by Slider's player before the OC is sent in the OC will be denied). You must first clear it with the player of the canon character before you request it!


- THIS IS A POST HIGH SCHOOL RPG (i.e. COLLEGE AGE). The core characters, both Canon and OC, need to be old enough to do things together. (i.e. If Blink is throwing a frat party on the weekend, there better not be anyone under the age of 18 trying to go, unless they want to just get thrown out of the party and the guys will make fun of them forever.)

***This is very important! We don't want to have Morris be 22 and someone apply for Oscar and say he's 24. Oscar should be the younger brother, but not that much younger!***

Terms:

Canon: An actual character from the movie. (Yes, Slider and Tumbler are Canon even though not everyone knows them by name. If you have questions, ASK!)
NPC: Non-Player Character made by a player that is free for anyone to use as they wish as long as it goes along with the characterization in their profile.
OC: Original Character made up by a player.
Core: Any character, Canon or OC, that is a minimum of a graduating high school senior or older.
OOC: Out Of Character; used to signify a post that is made by the player and not a character.
PB: Played By; signifies who you would have play your OC if they were cast in a movie (actor, actress, model, singer, etc).
