First things first... THIS IS NOT A GROUP DEDICATED TO BEING A SELLOUT OR UNCLE TOMMING OR ANY OF THAT NONSENSE..

This is a group for folks that have ever been the token minority or majority in life situations.. and a forum to discuss the issues that come with it.

Many people experience this postion in society. Its hard being the TOKEN race member in a sea of the racial majority. These folks SOMETIMES feel forced to have to represent their race in an oppressive way in order to fit in to the majority group. (SAD but true)

Many TOKENS just mind their own BIZ and just go through life doin the best they can.. catching heat from the majority they live with, and their own kind for living and growing up around a different race than their own.

Other tokens are the only images of a race that Hollywood or Pop Culture allows you to see on a regular basis.

TV has done it/portrayed it for years...
Intergration in the US in the 1950's sparked a large influx of tokens into many caucasian dominated neighborhoods. Sometimes resulting in general accpetance. Other times in white flight. But always in those awkward moments of being the only one to represent your race.

It doesnt matter what race you are... you could be... you might be...

A TOKEN.

Wikpedia Definitions..

Tokenism -the inclusion of a single person (or very few people) of a group so an organization can publicly claim to be inclusive

Token character- a supporting character in a story who has no real relevance to the plot but is included to conform to expected standards
