The Department of Homeland Security: Neighborhood Network Watch Program is a program that collects data from networks that are open to the public, analyzes this data, and profiles the networks with appropriate indexes of terror. The terror index is based upon the analysis of the data through a piece of software that can be run on a domestic citizen’s computer. The software uses keywords and phrases to identify potentially threatening network traffic. Upon the completion of analysis the, ratio of traffic that is potentially a national security risk is then compared with normal routine traffic from the data collected. After an index is attained a Network Advisory is issued. Citizens are being called upon now in the aftermath of 9/11 in order to aid the Department of Homeland Security, the National Security Agency, Central Intelligence Agency, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The exponential increase in the number of networks due to wireless technology has created the demand for the Department of Homeland Security to set out the call to the American people to be vigilant and to participate in domestic spy operations in order to keep their networks and their communities safe.
