Conservation groups are often concerned about forests, and most of the forests that appear in headlines are tropical. Northern and particularly Russian forest is disputably the largest in the world. It is also one of the most endangered forests due to large-scale environmental pollution, negligence and over-exploitation. Russian environmental groups and activists are often threatened and even eliminated by developers, loggers, and even possibly the government. Few international conservation organizations, like Greenpeace, are able to counter corruption and secrecy that surrounds slow destruction of the Russian forest. Internationally, very little is known about the wonders of the Russian forest, or the possibilities for developing sustainable forestry and eco-tourism. This group is to be used to exchange information and hopefully help protect the Russian forest for the sake of future generations.
