Help one New Orleans neighborhood rebuild this spring as the nation's first Zero Carbon Community
New Orleans' Holy Cross Historic Distric was one of the hardest hit areas of the entire Gulf Coast in August 2005. In the days immediately following the storm, this area became submerged in 10 feet of water for three weeks - following a massive levee break nearby. Nearly 6,000 residents were displaced, along with numerous schools, churches and businesses.
More than two years after Katrina, most residents of the Holy Cross community are still unable to rehab their flood-damaged homes which remain gutted without plumbing, electrical, insulation, or any interior finishing or contents. And yet, an amazing rebirth is underway led by the Holy Cross residents themselves. This community of 1,900 homes wants to become a national model of sustainability.
