The Park was a well known HTML based chat site for many years during the 1990's and into the early 2000's. Unfortunately, though its popularity was unrivaled and its name well known, the site eventually went under. Although it was rumoured that this was due to the poor business choices of its owner, Brent Hunter, one cannot be sure.


The Park was more than simply a site or a group of chatrooms to its regulars: it was a way of life. Friendships blossomed and relationships grew; more than 1 marriage resulted because of the site and many more tales - both good and bad - are to be told of chatter experiences.

In its wake, several new sites arose and some even flourished, though never to the popularity that The Park had once known. One of which is The Pork, a community which is still going strong and has a rock solid foundation provided by its owner and maintainer, Lee Craddock.

Other sites which old Parkers congregate and have seen varying levels of highs and lows over the years are/were Ozpark, Ties That Bind, Chatropolis, At The Fireplace and Chatropolis.

Several years later, Mr. Hunter would even try to launch another site which old Parkers found to be a place to reconnect; although the purpose of the site (The Earth Communication Center) was as a networking tool rather than focusing on the chat rooms. Due to various reasons, this website also flourished in popularity - thought it was much less than other similar sites and far lower in popularity than the Park, partly due to personal issues with Brent himself after the way he pulled out of his previous project without refunding or accommodating many - the spark of the site quickly fizzled and it is now inaccessible due to technical errors.

Refugees float around the internet and though some reconnect, many have been lost to the abyss. If you were a chatter at The Park, please join. If you know anyone else, please invite them to reconnect with old friends and flames.
